Batting: Left hand batsman
Bowling: Net bowler
Andrew Puttick, a stylish left-handed opener, was the most prolific run-scorer at domestic level in the Momentum One Day Cup competition during 2014/2015. His 652 runs guided the Cape Cobras to the final of the domestic 50-over showpiece.
His longevity has been a hallmark of his career. Puttick made his first-class debut in the 2000/2001-season and assisted the Western Cape team in winning the SuperSport Trophy.
He was part of the South African squad at the 1999 Under-19 World Cup alongside Graeme Smith and Jacques Rudolph.
Prolific at domestic first-class level, Puttick earned a South Africa A call-up for the 2003 tour of Sri Lanka. He was drafted into the national squad on the tour of Sri Lanka in 2004 as replacement for Herschelle Gibbs.
His sole game for South Africa came in a One Day International against New Zealand as a last-minute replacement, but he was bowled for a duck in the first over.
On the domestic circuit, Puttick continued to prosper and has been a consistent performer for the Nashua Cape Cobras.
He averaged 41.33 in the 2012/2013-competition when the Cobras secured the Sunfoil Series spoils, with a highest score of 194.
The composed left-hander played with great discipline in the 2013/2014 and struck 739 runs. His ability to compile substantial scores once he has completed a century, was underlined when he amassed 241 against the Chevrolet Warriors.
Puttick slightly altered his stance at the crease prior to the 2014/2015-season in order to improve his balance and shot-making. That factor contributed to his form in the Momentum One Day Cup competition.
The left-hander also proved to be a perfect foil for Richard Levi in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge in the temporary absence of Hashim Amla.
A feature of the Levi-Puttick-partnership was the splendid running between the wickets. They completed a record opening partnership of 140 for the opening wicket off only 97 balls against the Chevrolet Warriors at St. George’s Park.
Puttick’s powers of concentration are a pivotal part of his performances. Hard to dislodge once he has settled at the crease, he remains one of the mainstays of the Cobras domination at domestic level.
