World Sports Betting Cape Cobras’ Dane Piedt walked away with two Awards at the annual Cricket South Africa Awards ceremony on Saturday evening – the CSA 4 Day Franchise Series Player of the Season as well as the SACA Most Valuable Player Award.

World Sports Betting Cape Cobras CEO Nabeal Dien was full of praise for Piedt’s achievements. “Dane’s leadership has come on leaps and bounds since he was first appointed captain of the Cobras and his performances matched his leadership skills last season. As a franchise, we are very proud of his achievements and of Vernon Philander’s Award for Delivery of the Year Award, we know these two senior members of the team will inspire the younger members to take on more responsibilities this season as we target all the trophies on offer.”

“Hopefully I’m going in the right direction and banging the right doors (of the national selection committee) down,” said Piedt, who captured a record-breaking 54 wickets in last season’s 4 Day Series.

Piedt nipped out 13-141 in the 4 Day Franchise Series match against the Multiply Titans in Oudtshoorn, but the 11-wicket haul against the Warriors was a better performance, he claims.

“The highlight of the season in terms of my bowling was the 37-run win against the Warriors at St. George Park in which I took 8-130 in the second innings. The bowling attack operated as a unit and we bowled for each other.”

“The key to my success the past season was that I bowled an aggressive fifth-wicket line and I operated for the sake of my team-mates. I don’t want to let anybody down as captain and it motivates me,” he said.

Piedt’s coach at the World Sports Betting Cape Cobras, Ashwell Prince, is backing his spinner for a Proteas spot. “It is wonderful for Dane to get the 4 Day Franchise Player of the Year Award. It is just reward for his 54 wickets. Right now he is pushing Keshav Maharaj for the premier spinner spot in the South African team, but he is probably the second spinner that should be included in the touring team to India.”
